Special Recognition Award for Covid-19 Social Impact

In 2021 during the Canterbury Bankstown Chamber of Commerce’s Annual Gala, we are very proud to announce that St Merkorious was awarded for our COVID-19 social impact by receiving CBCC Social Impactor of the Year award in recognition for all the work we do for our community.

2021 was a difficult year for many. We were there to help our community recover during the first half of the year from the devastation of the 2020 COVID-19 lockdowns and bushfires, uplifted by the resilience in our community as we strived onwards alongside them to reopen the economy.

The second round of lockdowns that hit in late 2021 were devastating for many. Uncertainty was on the rise again, people on the brink of recovery fell, industries such as hospitality and retail fell. We witnessed so many of our community members who had tried their best to regain their feet have the world pulled from under their feet again as unemployment rose again.

When we see need, we help. Our charity is focused on one vision – on sharing the bread and giving hope to those who need it.

2021 has been a difficult year for many, and we were honoured to be able to help

Despite faltering donations and sponsorships, we forged onwards to deliver 2500 nutritious and filling meals a week to help people in need throughout Sydney, delivering to over 60 suburbs. We reached out with delivery, provided COVID-19 vaccination messaging through Zoom, created food hamper drop off points, and ensured to our best ability that our community was supported throughout the year.

To be recognised for our work is a great honour and opportunity for us to keep spreading our work and name out into the community, so even more people who may need help know that there’s someone there for them if they reach out. There are many great services and organisations out there that do great work, and we’re more than happy to be part of our community’s outreach efforts. It has been difficult seeing so many doing it tough, and we all hope that things are finally starting to settle down.

We thank all of our wonderful volunteers and sponsors for dedicating their time and effort to helping those in need in our community this past year, and we thank the Canterbury Bankstown Chamber of Commerce for acknowledging our efforts!
