Looking for a course that will help the get your foot in the door? Learn customer assistance, hygiene and safe practices, and sandwich making with Certificate I and II in Hospitality from TAFE to help you get into trade.

Already got your Cert I and II? For the right balance of theoretical and practical skills, choose Certificate III in Commercial Cookery which would combine extensive classroom lectures with rigorous hands-on training, a course that provides a great foundation for aspiring cooks.

TAFE NSW provides industry-qualified and experienced teachers who bring up-to-date, real-world skills directly to the classroom.  Our courses aim to change lives and open opportunities through official certification, and teach the essential practical skills to deliver great customer service in a variety of hospitality settings such as restaurants and cafes.

The Program

The free fee course has two days of training a week. You will complete your training in 9 weeks and get a statement of attainment in Certificate I in Hospitality. Become job ready!

Employers are looking for people who are skilled, and this program aims to help you get those skills. St. Merkorious will be your one-stop to learn, volunteer, train, and gain work placements.

Eligibility

People who meet the Smart and Skilled Fee-Free Scholarship criteria are eligible for a Smart and Skilled program course fee.

  • An Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident, Australian permanent humanitarian visa holder, or New Zealand citizen; and
  • No longer at school; and
  • Living or working in NSW; and
  • Aged 15 years or over, and
  • be either a Commonwealth Welfare recipient or the dependant of a Commonwealth Welfare recipient or
  • An NSW apprentice or new entrant trainee undertaking a qualification on the NSW Skills List.

If you are experiencing or have experienced domestic and family violence, you and your dependents may be eligible for a government subsidy that covers your Smart and Skilled course fee.

We are offering the exemplary students a six-month apprenticeship in our own kitchen after the training. We have partners in the hospitality industry through CBCC and other chambers who can help our students get training and employment opportunities. We want to help you throughout the journey toward a brighter future. You will meet local chefs, trainers, peers, and food enthusiasts who would have links to the who’s who in the hospitality sector to boost your career growth.
