Community Choir

Music is the language of the soul

Music is a universal language. Coming together to sing songs of hope connects our community no matter who we are, or where we come from. This is why one of our community initiatives is to share the joy of music in singing, performance and appreciation, building a sense of belonging, community, and cheer. Our past events that featured choirs were enjoyed by every single person who participated.

This is why one of our goals for the coming years is to create a dedicated St Merkorious Community Choir. Inviting clients, volunteers, general community members, St Merkorious staff and anyone else who would be interested, we wish to organise a choir. rehearsing weekly, that will sing songs of hope, joy, faith and resilience at key events.

A choir builds trust, and belonging, and creates life-long bonds through the power of music. If you’re interested, please register your name and join in on the fun and connection!

Vaccination for covid push

Vaccination Push

Every person deserves safety and healthcare

During 2021-2022, the COVID-19 crisis continued as lockdowns continued to wreak havoc in the community. However, unlike 2020, vaccinations were ready and available to be distributed to the community.

St Merkorious Charity understood that as a service provider to some of Sydney’s most vulnerable groups, we were at a great place to provide vaccination messaging to the community as an organisation that has built its reputation on trust and quality service.

Many of our clients are homeless, at-risk of homelessness, culturally and linguistically diverse, or may be time poor or disadvantaged by having no access to technology at home. Helped by government grants, we created a vaccination information campaign in other languages.

We organised a Zoom call in Arabic with a medical professional for our Arabic-speaking community to answer any vaccination-related questions they had, printed pamphlets to be distributed at our pick-up hubs, and posted on social media on various COVID-19 updates to ensure that our community had access to the latest government vaccination material.

Thank you, FECCA, for funding our campaign efforts and enabling us to keep our community safe!

Volunteer Programs

Empowering change for those who need it most

Our volunteers keep our charity operating. From delivery to food hamper packaging, kitchen aides, manning our pick-up hubs and community meals and more, our team of volunteers continue to provide their time and efforts to helping out those in the community who need it most.

Our charity is rich with volunteering opportunities, from hairdressing to hamper packaging, to driving and delivering food to families and community members in need, to administration, counselling and holding educational classes. Your skills and time are invaluable to us.
