Volunteer Driver – Collections

St. Merkorious Charity / Volunteer Driver – Collections

Thank you for your interest in becoming a volunteer collections driver! Our collections drivers head to various locations – such as food warehouses and donors – to collect goods and bring them back to our warehouse in South Strathfield for packaging and cooking. We’re understaffed, so every act of kindness helps!

We wish to guarantee the safety of all our volunteers at all times. This is why it’d be preferred if you apply to have a:

  • Current full driver licence
  • Excellent driving record
  • Ability to use technology (e.g. tablets, smartphones with GPS) to navigate scheduled trips
  • Confident driving a large van
  • Ability to communicate effectively with different people

  • Pick up donated food from Flemington Markets
  • Delivery food to Merkorious Charity warehouse for preparation
  • Pick up donations from other locations as directed
  • Carry out regular basic vehicle inspections as well as re-fuelling, and inform staff of any issues

Commitment Requested

A minimum of 3 hours on a weekday is requested between 7.00 am – 12.00 pm Monday-Friday. A minimum commitment of 3 months requested.

The rostering of hours and days will be negotiated to meet the availability of the volunteer and the needs of the service.

St. Merkorious Charity is committed to Volunteering Australia’s National Standards for Involving Volunteers. Hence the engagement of ongoing volunteers is generally restricted to a maximum of 16 hours per week.
