Standing With Survivors: St. Merkorious Supports a Tale of Truth

We were honoured to support two powerful and deeply moving events hosted by the CorriLee Foundation, donating food for the screenings of the French documentary Un Silence Si Bruyant (Such a Resounding Silence) on the 16th of September, 2024 at the Cremorne Orpheum and the 21st of November, 2024 at the Addi Road Community Centre.

The film follows the personal journeys of five incest survivors, told with raw honesty and emotional depth. Bold in its storytelling yet profoundly human in its delivery, it features several narrators from the No Laughing Matter campaign—amplifying voices that are too often silenced by shame, fear, and societal discomfort. At its core, the documentary is an act of truth-telling—bringing to light what for too long has remained hidden.

These events brought people together not just to watch a documentary, but to engage in an honest and necessary conversation about intra-familial sexual abuse. They reminded us of the power of truth—to challenge silence, create understanding, and begin the process of healing. We were proud to play a small part in supporting such courageous storytelling and community dialogue.

We extend our heartfelt thanks and admiration to Tanya Lee, Founder and President of the CorriLee Foundation, who organised the events, along with the powerful guest speakers: Grace Tame, Jean Kittson, and Jennifer Byrne. Together, they bravely ripped off the Band-Aid and called out intra-familial sexual abuse for exactly what it is: incest. Their courage, clarity, and conviction reinforced how vital it is to address injustice and
support survivors.

At St. Merkorious, we believe that nourishing people goes far beyond food. It also means standing in solidarity with those speaking the truth—even when that truth is difficult to hear. It means showing up—for justice, for dignity, and for the conversations that move us toward a more compassionate and informed society.

We were proud to stand alongside those who gave voice to truth, and to be part of a night that made space for honesty, action and healing. We thank all involved for their bravery and commitment to change.
