Serving with Purpose: From the Court to the Community

Mother’s Day is a time to honour the love, strength, and resilience of mothers everywhere. But for many single mothers doing it tough—often without a support system—this day can come with a mix of pride and quiet struggle.

That’s why we were so touched when Smiling Dumplings, a local business known for their delicious food and warm community spirit, decided to give back in a meaningful way. On Mother’s Day 2024, they pledged to donate 5% of all their sales to St. Merkorious Charity, in support of mothers in need.

Their generous gesture was aimed specifically at helping single mothers—many of whom are clients of our charity—who are working hard every day to raise and nurture their children under difficult circumstances. Whether it’s balancing work and care without a partner, living through financial hardship, or simply trying to put food on the table, these women show extraordinary courage and love.

Thanks to the team at Smiling Dumplings and everyone who supported them on the day, this act of kindness will go a long way in helping us continue to provide meals, care packages, and critical support services to families doing it tough.

At St. Merkorious, we believe in the power of community to lift each other up. And this Mother’s Day, we witnessed exactly that—a local business stepping up to honour mothers not just with words, but with action.

A Note to Single Mothers: You Are Not Alone

To all the single mums out there: we see you, we honour you, and we’re here to support you. Here are a few gentle reminders and tips we hope will help:

  • Ask for Help Without Guilt: You’re strong—but you don’t have to do it all alone. Reach out to local charities, support groups, or trusted friends. There is strength in seeking support.
  • Take Care of Yourself, Too: Your wellbeing matters. Even five minutes of quiet, a walk outside, or a cup of tea can help refuel your energy and patience.
  • Celebrate the Little Wins: Whether it’s getting through a tough day or making your child smile—every small success is worth celebrating.
  • Stay Connected: Isolation is hard. Connect with other single mums online or in your community. Shared experiences can ease the load.
  • Use Available Resources: Charities like St. Merkorious are here to help. From meals to practical support, you don’t have to carry it all by yourself.

Thank you, Smiling Dumplings, for your generous support and for helping us continue to stand by the incredible mothers in our community.
