Adam Doueihi: A Footy Star with a Shining Heart
At St. Merkorious Charity, we often cross paths with kind-hearted volunteers who give generously of their time. But every so often, someone steps up in a way that leaves a lasting impression—not just on us, but on the community we serve. One of those people is NRL Wests Tigers player Adam Doueihi.
While many know Adam for his grit and talent on the rugby league field, few may realise the extent of his compassion off it. While sidelined with a serious ACL injury, Adam was in the middle of rehab during one of Sydney’s toughest COVID-19 lockdowns in 2021. But instead of focusing solely on recovery, he chose to step up for his community.
During this time, Adam volunteered with St. Merkorious in two of our most essential outreach programs. Throughout the week, he helped drive our food delivery van, dropping off prepared meals to clients isolated at home—many elderly, unwell, or living in hardship. With the city shut down and services stretched thin, Adam’s help meant that vulnerable people across Sydney continued to receive the food and support they needed. On Monday nights, Adam drove the van and joined our Homeless Food Runs in Parramatta, where we serve hot meals to people experiencing homelessness. His humble service didn’t go unnoticed by those around him—including one very passionate supporter, Jason—a proud South Sydney Rabbitohs supporter and one of Adam’s biggest fans. Adam was generous enough to donate and sign his old Rabbitohs gear to him. Jason was definitely.
We’re incredibly grateful for Adam’s contribution and proud to have had him walk alongside us during one of the most difficult chapters in recent memory. He reminded us that even when the stadiums are empty and the crowds are gone, real heroes keep showing up.
Thank you, Adam—for the meals delivered, the time given, and the hearts you lifted along the way.
